Major internet providers
The Spanish telecom market is dominated by three large networks. They offer high-speed fibra óptica (fiber optic) packages, but their prices are higher.
- Movistar — Spain’s largest telecom provider. They have the most extensive fiber network and the best coverage. Customer service is reliable, but it is the most expensive option. They allow you to sign up using a passport number.
- Vodafone — A major network provider. They offer strong fiber speeds and package deals with mobile and TV services. Customer support is average. They usually require a Spanish bank account for billing.
- Orange — The second largest network. Their pricing is similar to Vodafone. They offer good bundling options. You can sign up in person at their shops using a passport.

Budget and low-cost providers
If you want to save money, several secondary brands offer cheaper fiber plans on the same networks.
- Digi : An extremely popular low-cost provider using the Movistar network. They offer the cheapest high-speed fiber plans in Spain, starting around €20 per month. You can sign up with a passport.
- O2 : A budget brand owned by Movistar. They use the same network and offer simple, flat pricing with no hidden fees or commitment periods. Customer support is excellent and speaks English.
- Pepephone : A budget brand using the Yoigo/MasOrange network. They are famous for transparent billing and good customer service. They do not have commitment contracts.
Registration requirements and contract rules
You must pay attention to the contract terms before signing up. Most providers charge you for the installation if you cancel the contract early.
Contract commitment periods
Many providers include a permanencia (commitment period) in their contracts. This is usually 12 months for major networks and 3 months for budget brands. If you cancel your subscription before this period ends, you must pay a penalty fee of up to €150 to cover the fiber installation cost.

About 2 to 5 days. Once you sign the contract, the technician will call you to schedule a home visit. The physical installation and router setup take about 1 hour.
Do I need to return the router when I cancel?
Yes. Most providers lease the router to you for free. When you cancel your service, you must return the router to a local post office or store within 30 days. If you do not, you will face a fine of €50 to €100.
Is fiber available in old buildings?
